8" to 6" conection

Hi!

I have just up graded to the EF5 system with an 8" inlet. I have previously used an early CV system with a 15 inch impeller and 6" inlet. This forum was so helpful in setting up my piping a few years ago.

My question is: should I reduce from 8" to 6" right at the inlet or try to find 8" pipe for the first 6feet and then reduce? I can't justify the time or money to change all the main runs to 8" I have a small one man shop so a bit of cfm loss is OK.

Is it possible to change the rectangle box at the inlet to a 6"? It kind of flares to go to 8" and I don't want to reduce to much cfm to go right back down to 6". I'm hoping to do as little conversion as possible since I like how my ducting is set at this time.

I currently use sch 40 PVC. I got a quote from Fergeuson for >300 for 8" duct and 188 for a 8 to 6 reducer!

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Micha
