AirFoil Blower Housing

I discovered this forum today, this is great!
I am thinking of purchasing a Clear Vue cyclone but trying to keep the motor to a 2 Hp size for my basement shop. Reading Bill's info for hours, fantastic stuff !!!, the AirFoil impeller seams to be most efficient and Bill has a good descripion of the blower housing he made for testing but if you make one to fit the Clear Vue cyclone, similar to the blower housing shown in your order section, I would rather do that.
Thanks :D

Ram,
We do make that blower housing but you need to consider several things about the air foil. While it moves more air per h.p. it has some drawbacks that I don't care for. First, you (not me) have to fit a 6" inlet pipe and bell the end to fit the intake of the blower and give about 1/8" clearance bethween the tube and the impeller ring. That could be a chore. Second, the air foil isn't self cleaning, i.e. if a strand of wood or several get thru the cyclone and get to the impeller, they can "hook" over the blades and cause an imbalance condition. Third, the airfoil will only pull up to 8" of static pressure. You need an extra valve in the system that will open incase all blast gates are closed. Given these drawbacks, I would rather see you go to a good heavy duty 2 hp motor and the 14" sheldon's material handling impeller. If you do that you will need an amp meter to make sure you don't overload the motor. Harbor Freight has an amp meter for about 20.00. If you check your current draw and it's too close to max motor rating, you can restrict your intake slightly to reduce the current draw. (When you restrict the intake you will pull a slightly higher vacuum in the cyclone. With less air getting to the impeller, the motor has to do less work) Hope this helps.
