CVMAX - Shortening intake pipe

invictive

New member
Hi there,

I have a CVMAX that I have to raise by several inches to accommodate a new floor. The piping is already in place, so I am wondering if it is possible to shorten the intake by 3-4 inches? I have circled the area in red in the attached photo.

Thanks for any input!

Altering the intake duct will adversely impact the cyclone's efficiency to remove dust. I would recommend you make an offset with a pair of 45* elbows and a short length of straight pipe to replace a section of duct leading into the intake. For most effective cyclone operation, you want a straight run in the last few feet before the intake (see Bill Pentz website).

Another place to make that jog, as far away from the cyclone as possible, thus giving an even longer uninterrupted straight shot of pipe to the cyclone. I would go 7 to 10 feet or to the first existing el or wye in the system if the former isn't possible. But I'm with McRabbit, the factory piece is the last thing I'd want to shorten. Jim.
