Hi all,

Is there a 50Hz version of the single phase 230V Leeson motor on the EF5? Moving to Europe and need to either replace the motor or get a VFD to cycle up to 60Hz from the 50Hz mains.

Thanks,

- Ian

The Clear Vue in Australia sell the cyclone with a 3phase motor and add the VFD to get the airflow we get with the 60Hz here. (50Hz motors run slower than 60Hz motors that reduce the performance of the cyclone. Roughly 2800 rpm instead of 3400rpm.) They have information on how to setup the VFD they use to change from 50Hz single phase to the 3 phase on their site, to simplify the 180 page book you get with the VFD. They recommend the Powtran P19000 series VFD made in China and you can buy it direct from Powtran or through Alibaba if you prefer. I bough mine for a 3 phase CV-Max a year and a half ago and it was $170US plus about $75 shipping by UPS or Fedex. Can't remember which it was now.

The VFD gives you the advantage of adjusting the motor speed to suit the operation you are doing. Lower for the drill press and a little higher (65Hz) for the lathe. Also lets you slow start the motor to reduce the amperage draw. You have to get a 3 phase motor to use a VFD. They don't work on a single phase motor.
