Ed,
I read that your "mini" cyclone did not really work out due to velocities etc. How are you able to get a Shop Vac to move enough air to make it work effectively?

I saw the video and it looks great.... did you considered mounting the motor/filter on top of the cyclone? I would think eliminating the additional hose would help, although it would certainly make it top heavy.

Sorry to be so long getting this up. I don't look at the forums all the time....shame on me. Anyway, to answer your question....it's a matter of Suction. A shop vac will produce between 45 - 125" of SP (water column) while our cyclone with the new 15" impeller only produces a max of 18" of SP. A dust collector works by moving a lot of air at a relatively low SP while a Vacuum cleaner works by moving a relatively small amount of air through a small hose at a relatively high SP.
