Mirror Image Impeller Housing

Is it possible to use a mirror image of the impeller housing, so that the exit is on the left hand side (when viewed from the front). My installation is venting externally and will exit through a wall to the left of the cyclone, and in that orientation the impeller housing exit is approx 12" / 30cm away from the wall. I'm wanting to get it to sit closer to the wall.
My concern is that the impeller would need to be run in the reverse direction, so the backward inclined fan would become forward inclined. I guess this would change its performance, and noise.

Any thoughts ?

A while back someone measured their motor current and found the motor overloaded. Mcrabbet picked up on it and indeed it was running backwards. I guess it is posible to build a mirror image but i doubt anyone will make the investment.

Unless I am missing something, rotating the housing 180 degrees permits the same side clearance to the left wall - with the filter transition 90 removed. Having a 2-3 ft straight exit is OK.
