New Shop Setup with ClearVue

Ok, Here goes a multi=part session on a shop planned in a house new to us. We expect to start moving by the end of next week (April 15). The new shop is the third car slot in a three car garage. It will be 330 sq ft in area (12' X 26' 10"). As our prioriities are to get us settled into a liveable condition first, the shop is lower on the priority list, so it may be at least a month before I get into the actual shop setup including the new cyclone (expect it to arrive this next week - thanks to Ed and his son). However, I am a planner, and so I would like to share the shop layout and a proposed overhead ducting diagram and get some feed-back from Ed and others in the forum before I actually get into setting up the shop and ClearVue.

I have two drawings to share. the first is the shop layout with benches, tools, and wood storage. The second overlays that with the ClearVue placed just outside the garage-to-shop door and a proposed ducting system. Note I have added an air return (thanks Ed). I have ordered six blast gates and only show four installed. Note that I show all the tools along the walls. Normally I will roll a tool, e.g., the table saw into the center of the shop placing it as I want including setting it for a rip operation with the outfeed going over the cabinetmakers bench. I've noted all the tools that are on wheels. I plan to have drops from the overhead ducting to connect to the tool(s) in use. I am concerned that I will have two many drops open on some gate close/open combinations and so will appreciate constructive feedback.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get an image into the file or attach a file. I see there is an earlier message from ed that attaching files are possible, but I haven't figured it out. Help!

Thanks in advance,

Rex :D

Rex,
If you click on add a reply, look down at the bottom left hand of the screen.....scroll down....you will see File Attachments. You can click on Browse....select a file and add it. You can only add one per post (at least I haven't figured out how to add more)

Thanks Ed, apparently I didn't have that part showing on my screen. Here is the first shop layout w/o dust collection system. Not fancy drawings, but close enough for hobby work!

Apparently flipping back and forth to and from preview, I lost the attachment. Here we go again.

Now, the shop with proposed ducting and the ClearVue. Comments will be apreciated as I must confess although I have spent a good deal of time in Bill Pentz's web site, I have not done a lot of study on the management of drops from the ducting.

Rex

Rex,
Over all it looks good. A few minor things. First, you need a blast gate by each machine that you hookup. That way you can close all but the one that you are using. Second, you have 2 gates shown at the ceiling. It would be very inconvenient to open and close them. Third, you might want to think about locating all your drops along the wall. That way you can mount the pipe rigid to the wall and you can stretch the flex hose out from there to reach the machine you have in the center of the room.....I presently have mine like that an use the "back" side of the machine to the wall. Good luck and let me know what you think.....

Ed,

Thanks for the input. What you say makes sense from a usage basis, I have in the back of my memory some discussion I had a couple years ago with regard to some Felder equipment I was involved with and the recommendations were to put the gates on the main lines as much as possible. In my current shop I have done as you described. I put the gates in main lines on my new shop proposed layout just to see what responses I would get.

Good news! The ClearVue arrived today. I have not unboxed it yet as it will be moved shortly to its new home. I have noted that the bottom of the motor box is pretty weak. Otherwise, there is no outside packing damage.

It will be a while before my next post.
