Where to mount the blower ...

I'm just getting serious about setting up a dust collection system. I have a lot to learn!

I have a Jet DC-1200W I bought several years ago with what seems to be a substantial felt filter bag. Can I effectively use a Clearvue Cyclone ducted to my DC with 6" ducting instead of using a blower mounted directly to the top of the cyclone? If so, what sort of reduction in SP would result?

Jay,
I don't think I would recommend using 6" pipe to the cyclone. The discharge from the cyclone is 9". If you used 9" from the intake of the blower to the cyclone it might work. I believe 6" is going to be to restrictive to allow the cyclone to function properly. You would be better off to sit your blower right on top of the cyclone and pipe the discharge from the blower to the filters. Remember that the cyclone relies on air speed to seperate the dust from the air. If your air velocity is too low then the cyclone will alow too much fine dust to pass thru to the filters.....thus clogging the filters too often.
